Who publishes this site

This website is published by the company that operates Marenhof, Zandkuilstraat 16, 9724 PB Groningen, The Netherlands. Write to [email protected], or by post to that address, marked for the duty manager. Telephone +31 50 318 44 70.

What this website is not

These pages have no booking engine, account creation, login or basket, and take no payment of any kind. Nothing here charges a card, stores a card or sees a card. A room is confirmed by telephone or by email with a person at the desk, and that conversation is covered by the hotel's own records.

What is collected

If you only read

We collect nothing about you beyond the server log described below. No profile is built and no identifier is set that follows you to another site, and no third-party script runs while you read.

The two things stored in your browser

Two values are written to your own device's local storage. They stay on the device, we never receive them, and clearing your browsing data removes them.

  • gn_age_ok: remembers that you answered the age question on the home page, so you are not asked again on that device.
  • gn_consent: remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics and advertising measurement, so the cookie bar stops appearing.

If your browser refuses local storage, for instance in a private window, the site still works and asks you both questions again on each visit.

Server logs

The hosting provider writes an ordinary access log: IP address, the time, the page requested, the referring page if the browser sends one, and the browser's user-agent string. The log exists to keep the site up and to spot attacks. It is kept for 30 days and then overwritten, is not combined with anything else, and is not used to identify individual readers.

The contact form

The form on the contact page has no server behind it. Pressing Send hands the text to the mail programme on your own device; the message leaves only when you send it from there. What reaches us is an ordinary email containing your name, your email address, the subject you chose and whatever you wrote. We use it only to answer you.

Analytics and advertising

When the site is first opened, neither an analytics tag nor an advertising tag is loaded. Google Consent Mode is set to deny on every page before anything else runs. If a measurement tag is added in future, it will stay denied until you press Accept on the cookie bar, and pressing Decline keeps it denied. You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" control in the footer of every page. The cookie policy lists what those tags would set.

Lawful bases

  • Legitimate interest: keeping the site available and secure, which is what the server log is for, and answering an email you chose to send us.
  • Consent: anything that would measure your visit or support advertising. Nothing of that kind runs without it, and consent can be withdrawn as easily as it was given.

How long things are kept

  • Server logs: 30 days.
  • Email you send us: until the matter is closed, and in any case no longer than two years.
  • Browser storage: until you clear it. The two keys have no expiry of their own.

Who else sees it

Two parties: the hosting company, because the site sits on its machines and its log is the log described above, and the hotel's email provider, because that is where an email you send arrives. Nobody else sees it, and nothing is sold, rented or shared for marketing. If a court or a regulator in the Netherlands requires disclosure, we comply, and we say so here.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you may ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or erased, ask us to restrict or stop a particular use, and object to processing based on legitimate interest. Ask by email or at the desk. We answer within one month. If the answer does not satisfy you, you may complain to the Dutch data protection authority; reception will give you its current contact details on paper.

Children

This site is written for adults and the hotel's gaming floor is restricted to people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect anything about a child. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to the address above and it will be deleted.

Changes

When this policy changes, the review date at the top of this page changes with it and the previous version is kept at reception on paper for a year. A change that affects what we do with your information will also be flagged on the home page for a month.
